Teen Talent Showcase
SNEHA
Singer
Hi! I’m Sneha and I’m a computer science major by day and musician by night. You’ll usually find me sitting in one corner of my room, ukulele in hand, headphones on, recording harmonies for a song. I like to occasionally make very aggressively happy music like this because it makes me feel like I'm making a difference somehow, no matter how small - that I'm making someone smile just for a bit and its the best feeling in the world. I think you should do art, it doesn't have to be good, it can be really really bad, you don't have to monetize it, do it because you CAN. It makes me feel like I can breathe better, I hope it feels like that for you too :)
KELLY ZHANG
Guzheng Player
Kelly is a rising senior in high school and she loves dessert and music. Kelly is also an Guzheng player. She was attracted by the unique sound of guzheng, and started playing guzheng when she was 10. Guzheng is a traditional Chinese plucked instrument with a more than 2500-year history. It has 21 strings and is tuned in a major pentatonic scale. The song she’s playing is Qingming Rain(清明雨上). The composer of the song expresses feeling of cherishing the memory of the old friend.
ANGELA GUO
Singer
My name is Angela Guo, and I’ve been doing some form of music ever since preschool (thanks mom!). But it’s only been in the past 2-3 years that I’ve started making covers and putting them out on YouTube. The whole recording/filming/editing process is just so fun to me, and it’s amazing to see all the parts come together at the end. For this particular video, I was inspired by Conan’s cover of “Dream A Little Dream Of Me”. Although my bathtub is no where as aesthetic as his, setting up my succulents in there gave me the joy of a lifetime. This summer I hope to continue uncovering the wonders of GarageBand, and work on some original songs!
LAUREN HUI
Piano Player
Hi! My name is Lauren Hui and I’m 14 years old. I’ll be entering my sophomore year of high school in the fall and I’ve been playing piano for around 8 years. I love piano because if I ever need something to pass my time with, I can just sit at the piano and play something. I also love how I have the freedom to play any songs that I want to. So I definitely encourage you all to learn an instrument, it’s really fun!! I chose the song “Tale as Old as Time” from Beauty and the Beast because I really love this song, and I saw the sheet music in a book I had so I was like, why not?
PEYTON LEE
Musician
My name is Peyton Lee, and I just graduated from Gunn High School. Music has always been a big part of who I am, but it's helped me especially during shelter-in-place. To me, music is a means of connecting people—it transcends barriers of culture, language, and geography. I started quarantine with thirty days of instrumental covers, using what I had around the house and my instrumental talents to recreate some of my favorite songs. Hope you enjoy this one of "Come On Eileen" by Dexys Midnight Runners.
ELIANA PEREZ
Singer
Hi I'm Eliana, a rising senior! I also really love singing! You might have seen me around as Sister Chantelle in Bare: A Pop Opera, Tivka in Growing, or competing in Bay Area American Israeli Idol. I love singing because I can hear I'm improving everyday. Even if I'm not perfect, I know I'm getting there. In the video below, I am singing Leave Me Lonely by Ariana Grande ft. Macy Gray. Hope you enjoy!
SUMMER QUIN
Guzheng Player
Hey guys! My name is Summer, and this is my 12th year of playing this instrument , and I've found it really therapeutic. For people who don't know, the Guzheng is a 21 string Chinese traditional instrument, sometimes dubbed the "Chinese Harp". I chose BTS's song"Fake Love"because it is a really popular K-pop song , and is also my bias among all BTS Songs! I want to show to the world that a traditional instrument can also do a good job in performing pop songs, just in a different way. I hope you enjoy!

We just realeased our first single, "Her", to all paltforms. It's an alternative pop track that blends the sounds of indie rock with dreamy, psychedelic production. ELIANA PEREZ
Artist
Hi I'm Eliana, an upcoming senior in high school! I love art because it really allows you to apply your own vision very meticulously to a page. Very few things in life allow you to have quite as much control as art does, if I want four butterflies on a page or a cat jumping over the moon, I can make it happen! The works selected below are mostly self portraits done for my AP Art portfolio. In my portfolio, I wanted to ask, how do our emotions impact how we view ourselves? And I figured this out through self portraits , which I made as I was experiencing said emotion. The pieces here represent emotions from confusion to playfulness to anger. This body of work is a mixed media collection, with works made with ink, acrylic, pencil, and even makeup! I hope to improve everyday with my work, so if you see something that needs work or to improve on, feel free to let me know at @thisiseliana on Instagram! Enjoy!
CHRISTINA DING
Artist
Growing up, my grandma would always draw these beautiful renderings of the imagery in Chinese poems and nursery rhymes. From markered swans and lilypads to graphite sketches of children flying kites, she could draw anything with any medium she wanted to. Now, even though I rarely have the time to sit down and create, art is a way for me to destress and pay homage to my grandma's beautiful drawings. For more of my art, follow @artkrees on Instagram!
VASUDHA RAMAMURTHI
Artist
Hello! I'm Vasudha Ramamurthi. I think I started art mainly because I got really inspired by comics and anime, and that slowly branched off into everything else. Frankly art still remains as one of the biggest stress relievers that I have in my life and helps me process events or places that I've been through or seen.
ELIZAVETA KOZLOVA
Artist
When I was younger I used to really love comics, and I was a very visual learner in general. After watching some animated shows, I became interested in trying to recreate it's characters. From that point on, I started exploring different styles to find one that I personally really like, and to this day I still love drawing and experimenting!
CLAIRE WU
Artist
Growing up, I’ve always used art as a creative outlet. It started out as just a hobby, gradually developing into a passion when I began to intensively study fine art outside of school. I was part of the studio for around five years but I quit around two years ago to focus on music. I haven’t made much art since then and I find myself an art hobbyist once again. However, I now have a bit more experience under my belt than my old self and art still brings me happiness, and it always will.
CLAIRE WELLWOOD
Hip-Hop Dancer
Hi, my name is Claire Wellwood. I'm an incoming freshman at UC Santa Cruz, and I've been involved in dance for most of my life. I've tried all sorts of dance styles as I grew up, but the one that I connected with most was hip hop, I gravitated to the style because there were no rules or limitations to the ways I could express myself, and my preference towards hip hop music also influenced my decision to focus on it completely. So far, I've been a part of multiple hip hop dance crews, attended a variety of classes and dance conventions, and helped form my school's hip hop club. The video I decided to share is choreography I created for a song called Heaven Is Here by Soyybean featuring PSL Gold.
ELIZAVETA KOZLOVA
Photographer
I started taking photo classes in school during my sophomore year, because I wasn't sure which elective I wanted to take and decided to try something new! Taking Photo really brought out my creativity, and I especially enjoy editing simple minimalist photos to make the photo more interesting, like these!
